Vision board ideas for families

A family vision board is a plan for the year that everyone in the house had a say in. It tends to be more practical than a personal board and more fun, because it is full of things you will do together.

Here is how to make one that works for small children and adults at the same table.

Give everyone a turn

  1. Each person names one thing they want the family to do this year.
  2. Each person names one thing they want for themselves, and the family agrees to help.
  3. Add one thing you want to do more of at home, and one thing you want to do less of.

Ideas the whole family can share

  • A holiday or a weekend away
  • A weekly tradition: pizza Friday, a Sunday walk, a games night
  • Something to learn together: a language, cooking, a sport
  • A project at home: a garden bed, a painted room, a clear-out
  • Visiting grandparents or cousins more often
  • A way to help: volunteering, a fundraiser, a neighbour

One corner each

Every person gets a corner with their own goal in it, from the toddler’s “jump in puddles” to a parent’s new job. It teaches children that everyone’s plans matter, including the adults’.

Put it where the family gathers

The kitchen or hallway works better than a bedroom. Look at it together once a month and let whoever finished something take their picture down and keep it.

A copy on your phone

The board on the wall is for the family; a copy on your phone is for the days you are away from it. Take a photo of each picture and add it to Mira, and the plan shows up on your Home Screen.

Plan the fun first

Start with the trips and traditions. A family board that is mostly chores and targets gets ignored; one with next summer on it gets looked at every day.
